“Homeward Bound”

SMOKIE is a delightful 31 foot sloop based at the Mana Cruising Club on the west coast of the North Island of New Zealand, just north of Wellington City.

Designed and built by Alistair Dickson of Nelson, SMOKIE was launched in 1979 and spent her first few years racing and cruising the waters of Tasman Bay, on the northern shores of the South Island. A change of ownership took the little sloop across the Cook Strait to the Paremata Inlet and the Mana Cruising Club marina.

The painting portrays SMOKIE at the end of a holiday weekend of cruising the Marlborough Sounds beginning her crossing of Cook Strait, 'homeward bound'.
