In the painting "CHASE TO THE WING MARK" I have expressed
my enduring memory of the first New Zealand Challenge for the America’s
Cup.
Two great Twelve Metre Class yachts are charging down a reaching leg
of the racecourse on Gage Roads off Freemantle Australia, in conditions
typical of the 1987 Louis Vuitton challenger regatta.
The highly skilled sailors aboard KIWI MAGIC and STARS & STRIPES
are driving these 'lead mines’ down-wind arguably as no
other ‘twelves had been driven before. And of course, my favourite ‘twelve’ is
leading the charge! |
